In this virtual course (held July 28 - August 27), early-stage technology startup teams will learn how to conduct customer discovery interviews with potential customers, partners and industry stakeholders. The course goal is to gather evidence that your product or service could meet an important, unmet need for your customers and make a large impact in your target market.

You may apply with a team of 1-3 people. Teams may not split attendance between members. Please only include the members of your team that will be fully participating in the course. All team members are required to attend and participate fully in every course session and complete all coursework.

Join the Weill Cornell Medicine community in celebrating the culmination of the Biomedical Innovation Challenge — a premier, faculty-focused program advancing translational science and commercialization.

Over the course of this highly competitive 10-week program, participating teams engaged in expert-led seminars covering key elements of biomedical commercialization, including market and industry analysis, intellectual property strategy, R&D planning, regulatory pathways, business modeling, budgeting and fundraising, among other critical disciplines. Each team was also paired with experienced industry mentors to help shape their commercialization strategies and investor-ready pitches.

The evening will begin with live presentations from the finalist teams, followed by judging from a distinguished panel of venture capital and industry leaders who will select the winning pitches. Immediately following the pitch competition, join us for a networking reception at the Griffis Faculty Club.

Center for Technology Licensing (CTL) at Weill Cornell Medicine Office Hours with Eric Bryant are open to all who wish to get answers to their intellectual property questions and gain more information about the advancement of their IP filings with a one-on-one meeting.

The Tuesday, June 17, office hours will be hosted virtually by Eric Bryant, M.S., J.D., Intellectual Property Officer, Biomedical Sciences.  

Eric holds a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from New York University, a Juris Doctor from New York Law School, and is a registered patent attorney. He works with the Weill Cornell office to execute on intellectual property strategy, review submitted invention disclosures, and manage domestic and foreign patent filings and patent prosecution. Eric’s expertise encompasses a variety of technologies including, but not limited to, diagnostics tools and methods, pharmaceuticals, controlled release therapeutic devices, respiratory devices, surgical tools, biological technologies and nanotechnology.

Do you have ideas for a new medical device to improve patient care or a tool to support your current medical training objectives? Do you need assistance translating these ideas into a graphic design and printing a 3D prototype?

Join us on Friday, June 13 for an introductory 3D printing class in the BioVenture eLab's MakerSpace. Learn 3D printing basics and how to workshop your medical device projects. In addition to learning how to use specialized software and Google Sketch to create designs for 3D printing, topics covered in this seminar will include:

  • biodesign concepts
  • how to use design software to refine and augment your designs
  • tips for using a 3D printer to generate an initial prototype

The seminar will feature NatalieDeana Badillo, a Weill Cornell Medicine medical student and CTSC TL-1 trainee who possesses a biomedical engineering degree. She serves as Co-President of the Bioengineering Interest Group (BIG) and 3D Printing Liaison for the Samuel J. Wood Library at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Center for Technology Licensing (CTL) at Weill Cornell Medicine Office Hours are open to all who wish to gain more information about the advancement of their patent filings and to discuss their technology venture project with a one-on-one meeting with a Weill Cornell Business Development and Licensing Professional. The June 5th office hours will be hosted by Donna Rounds, Ph.D., Associate Director, Business Development and Licensing. 

Donna joined the startup world as one of the founders of Physiome Sciences, Inc., the first in-silico drug discovery platform using computational models of cells, tissues and organs. She later joined the British Technology Group (BTG Plc) as a technology scout, where she visited academic institutions across the East Coast searching for biotech projects in the early stages of development. Later, Donna joined Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV) and managed a portfolio of world-class scientists and Nobel laureates at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She was later recruited to lead the technology development program at Hospital for Special Surgery with a focus on musculoskeletal innovations and medical devices in orthopedics and rheumatology. Donna was on the scientific advisory board of Tohi Ventures and co-founded Nirova BioSense, which is dedicated to the development of optical sensors for real-time detection of ovarian cancer biomarkers.
