Most life science companies don't fail because the science was wrong. They fail because no one validated the problem, the customer, or the market before spending years and millions building toward them. They fail because no one left the lab — or the pitch deck — long enough to find out whether the problem they were solving was real, or whether the customer they imagined actually existed.

This webinar, moderated by Dr. Donna Rounds, associate director of Business Development and Licensing, CTL at Weill Cornell, brings together three practitioners who have confronted this challenge from radically different vantage points:

  • Audrey Beckman, partner and chief innovation officer at Boomerang Ventures, who evaluates and co-builds health tech companies
  • Dave Saunders, product development advisor at AiM Medical Robotics, where an MRI-guided neurosurgery robot has just completed first-in-human trials
  • Dr. Amir Goldan, associate professor and serial inventor of Prism-PET and NeuroTwain at Weill Cornell Medicine, who is navigating the leap from lab to market

12:00pm - 5:30pm Griffis Faculty Club

Join Robert A. Harrington, M.D., the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine, for a fireside chat with John Babich, Ph.D., president and chief scientific officer at Ratio Therapeutics, Inc. and former faculty of Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Babich has over 30 years of experience in radiopharmaceutical sciences and nuclear medicine, spanning academic, clinical and biotech/pharma settings.

Ratio Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage company founded upon Weill Cornell Medicine technology invented by Dr. Babich and colleagues, is developing next-generation radiopharmaceuticals for cancer treatment. It closed a $70 million Series C financing in July 2026, bringing its total capital raised to $240 million.

Dean Harrington and Dr. Babich will explore important topics including technology development in academia, balancing the demands of an academic career and launching an innovation, fundraising in the current environment and spinning out companies.

The symposium also features an industry panel and a presentation by Teresa Sanchez, Ph.D., associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, on her Critical Path Institute BRIDGe award winning research on sepsis-associated neurocognitive dysfunction.

Participants will have an opportunity to network with like-minded researchers and innovators as well as industry representatives at the end.
