Join Osage University Partners (OUP) for a two-part webinar series on finding a CEO for your academic startup company. We will hold the first part of this webinar series on June 21st and will focus on the evaluation process for CEO candidates. OUP Managing Partner Marc Singer will discuss the importance of the leadership team to a startup’s success and explore methods for evaluating outside CEOs. The webinar will highlight relevant backgrounds and important characteristics of a startup CEO, and it will provide tools to assist with candidate evaluation. Marc will also provide data on the performance of different types of CEOs, including grad students and professors, from OUP’s tech portfolio.
The second part of the webinar series will be held later this summer and will focus on sourcing of the CEO and other C-suite talent. OUP Managing Partner Matt Cohen will moderate a panel featuring a recruiter, a talent professional from a VC firm, and a serial academic entrepreneur. Dates and additional information coming soon.

NCI SBIR Program director Saroj Regmi will be hosting a virtual Q&A session on the Small Business Transition Grant. Following a brief overview on this funding opportunity, Saroj will answer attendee questions.
The Small Business Transition Grant was developed to assist early-career academic scientists in transitioning to entrepreneurship. Beginning as a Phase I STTR award that transitions into a Phase II SBIR award, it provides innovators with up to $2.4 million towards their biotech R&D efforts. As of this year’s Notice (RFA-CA-24-023), the Small Business Transition Grant has also expanded to include a Phase I STTR-only option. Applications are due Monday, August 21, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. ET.

As an informational resource as well as service provider, the facility collaborates closely with faculty from MSK and Rockefeller University. Faculty-led startups will have completed 10 weeks of rigorous instruction by life science professionals and, with the help of over two dozen industry mentors, created their initial business plans. This event provides an opportunity for the BPC startup teams to pitch their ideas to a group of prominent venture capital judges and compete for up to $100,000 in prize money.
